The Nemesis

Chapter 16 - Edwin vs. Khors

Right before the match starts, Khors and Edwin are standing outside the fight area. They exchanged some words. Khors talked first to Edwin. He told Edwin that he is the right opponent to fight. Both Edwin and Khors are aware of each other's specialty. Edwin told Khors that he is looking forward to fighting. The announcement is over the battle between two weaponry types, Khors versus Edwin. Edwin is shorter, lightweight, and younger than Khors. Khors have the physicality advantage over Edwin. Besides, Edwin felt that Khors is making fun of him by calling him the right opponent. On the other hand, Khors thought a match against a similar sort of opponent is easy.

Khors and Edwin stand against each other, tightened their grip on weapons. The fight begins. As it starts, both were circling and staring into each other's eyes. Myra was watching from above. "So, that's your disciple?" said Bruce. Myra answered him, saying that Edwin is not her disciple yet. Bruce, Brock Hamilton's younger brother. He is the same age as Myra. Like Brock, Bruce is also a skillful warrior of Pisces. He achieved Zar rank too. Myra and Bruce are good friends and subordinates working in the same unit.

Khors and Edwin started the battle fiercely. The Axe and Sword are colliding, generating sharp sparks. To everyone, it is clear to see that Khors' strength is overwhelming Edwin. The attack by him is getting hard to dodge for Edwin. If Edwin made a block using the sword, then it would be useless, thought Edwin. In quick time, Khors realized that as per his thinking, Edwin is weak in physical battle, even though Edwin is supposed to be good with the sword. Still, Khors decided not to underestimate him. According to Khors, Edwin is holding back his power. So does Khors.

On the other hand, Edwin got overconfident about Khors strength. Khors is truly powerful. Bruce asked Myra what she had seen in Edwin, and he is not good to be your disciple. Myra told Bruce to shut up and observe, and the match isn't over yet. Bruce knew that he is judging Edwin too early. Myra noticed that Edwin is leaving the point of energy all around the ground. Every time Khors strikes, and Edwin pretends to fall, to plant those points. Myra thought to herself that is Edwin going for Reis? Then she concluded that the level of energy is too faint, it will not work. What the hell is this brat thinking?

Khors continues attack is missing the hit on vital points of Edwin. The more Edwin is backing off, the heavier the blows are getting. Edwin went in the defensive position. Khors thought he enjoyed this a little, and now it's time to end this fight. He went for hit on the vital point, Edwin defended that blow, but the power is too much that it broke Edwin's sword in half. The hilt and some portion of the blade remained in the hands of Edwin. According to rules, they can't replace the weapon.

Edwin put the remaining part of the sword on the ground and prepared to combat with bȧrė hands. When everyone thought the game is over for Edwin, he revealed the trump card. When Khors is almost about to finish fallen Edwin, Edwin pulled the hilt with string. Moving quickly, he pointed the sharp edge on the neck of Khors. Bruce exclaimed to Myra that it is impressive. After looking at that, Myra told Bruce that she understood what Edwin did and smiled.

Edwin was planting the very faint points all over the ground using the level of incantation magic he can perform. Not only that, Edwin connected those points with thin, bȧrėly visible threads. He later used the principle of Reis to use those threads to wrap all over the joints of Khors, to block his movements. Finally, when Edwin made clear that Khors is in a perfect position, he pulled the blade and checkmate. After Myra told Bruce how Edwin manages to pull this off, Myra asked Bruce how that was? Bruce admits that Edwin is good. He didn't expect to see it.

As killing is not prohibited, everyone thought that Edwin would stab Khors to kill. It didn't appear to spectators, but Edwin saw the fear of death in his eyes. Edwin asked Khors to give up this is the last chance. Angry Khors refused to give up. He is correct. Giving up is not an option in a fight. The fight must go on till either one of them lost consciousness, give up, or gets killed. Edwin told Khors if that's the criteria, prepare to die. Bruce said to Myra that Edwin is going for the first kill. Myra responded that do not misunderstand Bruce. He is a naive brat, and besides, he is giving him a bluff.

Edwin collapsed right after the Khors left, as he took too much damage from his attacks. Bruce told Myra that he expected to fell on the ground, as it's insane to sustain such heavy blows and walk like it's nothing. Good grief, said Myra herself. She told Bruce that Edwin is reckless. Let's see the next matches. The medics put Edwin on a stretcher and left. In reality, the sustained damage is no big deal for Edwin. The use of concentrated incantation magic leads to his current condition. With rest, he would be fine.

Following that match, match no. 28, Ashley versus Tia. Ashley is a classmate of Edwin, and like Edwin, she is also weak in magic. But, her specialty is psychic power. Due to specific rare genetic disorders, some people are born with psychic abilities. The one with those abilities can never perform the magic from all four types. In this world, there is a 0.001% chance that someone has psychic power. Ashley's father serves in the army, and her mother is an ordinary person.

Only the powerful divination of mages can counter the full-scale psychic power. However, the strength of Ashley's psychic ability is far too low. These abilities consume the same amount of stamina as of magic-user.. It means her source of psychic power comes from her level of endurance and energy.
