The Nemesis

Chapter 19 - Departure

After Bruce left, they all headed towards the warrior headquarters. On the way, Myles asked Edwin about his face-off against Emil Isakov. Myles said that when Bruce mentioned that name, Edwin was giving vibes of fear. Edwin told Myles that was nothing like that. And instead of fear, I have anger inside of me. Tobias asked Edwin what happened on that day. Edwin started telling them that it was an activity. An academy organized. All we have to do is find the hidden Hiddenite. Myles told Edwin that they heard everything from Ashley in the past. He asked Edwin to speak about Emil.

Edwin told them that he and those top-ranking Ar were camping and doing stuff. We sensed some suspicious presence. And for some reason, we split into two groups. While we were heading towards the target location, the other group confronted Emil. First, we didn't know about that. Later, when the second group didn't make it to the rendezvous point, we went to join them. Emil already gave them a good beating. And when we joined them, we got caught up and beaten too. And as you know, after what exactly happened to them and me. Ashley told Myles and Tobias that the purpose behind Emil's action was not clear yet.

Edwin raised his voice and yelled that Emil was after Hiddenite, and he wanted to snatch some from there. Ashley laughed and told Edwin that it didn't make any sense. Emil is not a low-life thug. He was into some big messes. And why the hell, a person like him go for Hiddenite. You all know already that Hiddenite is not for any magic use. Edwin politely expressed that he agreed with what Ashley spoke. But saying in disagreement, Edwin spoke as that it was a truth, and Emil was after Hiddenite only.

Tobias asked them what kind of weapon they would be choosing? When they all get uniforms, they also get one non-magical consuming weapon. It means they all would be getting an unmagical embedded weapon to use. From the respective Zar rank, the weapon changes to magic embedded. Edwin didn't know that and asked Tobias out of curiosity. Myles told Edwin that warriors above Ar class get their magic embedded weapons, and for now, we all would have to get the normal one. Ashley added that it is because of the magic control. Those tools were to be used by amateurs, and boom, it would drain all the user's energy.

Edwin wondered that when they met Bruce, he was carrying an ordinary sword. Tobias sensed and just shot the blind arrow. He asked Edwin that is he thinking about Bruce's regular sword? Edwin exclaimed and asked Tobias how did he figure it out. Tobias claimed that it was his guess, and the reason behind Bruce's ordinary sword is that the Zar doesn't necessarily need to carry their weapon all the time, as they can summon according to their needs. Any user can do the summoning of magic-embedded tools if they require. Keeping it all the time also consumes a lot of energy.

Myles asked Ashley about her choice of weapon. Ashley explained as her base is psychic power, so she doesn't need one. And if the urgency came, Ashley could make on out of any hard object. Still, she is picking a dagger. Tobias and Myles are picking the sword. Edwin thought of something and admitted he would choose a sword.

Later, they all arrived at headquarters. All of them got the dėsɨrėd weapon and uniforms ȧssigned to them. Taking goodbye for the rest of the day, they all went to their home.

At midnight, Murphy didn't feel like sleeping, and he went to see Edwin. By the door, Murphy peaked into Edwin's room. He saw Edwin wasn't asleep too. Murphy entered and as he wished to speak with Edwin.

Murphy asked Edwin about his mission. Edwin responded that he didn't allow to disclose any information even to his guardian. Murphy told Edwin that Murphy did forget about that for a moment. Instead, he was willing to know where does Edwin going. Edwin told Murphy that he and his squad would be going to Colveil. Murphy said that is a good place. Edwin told Murphy that he would be moving over there for a living. On that, Murphy passed a smile and told Edwin that it might be good. He wishes for Edwin's well-being.

Edwin admits that he would miss Murphy. He is the only family Edwin has. And quickly, Edwin promised that soon he would be back to see Murphy. Later, Edwin talked about Ashley, Myles, and Tobias. All that time, Murphy listened to everything Edwin said, and vice versa Edwin did the same. The time was getting past midnight. Murphy advised Edwin to get some sleep as the big day ahead. Edwin agreed but asked Murphy that throughout his teaching to Edwin. Is there something new for him to learn?

Murphy told Edwin that there was something he wished to advise him. Murphy elaborates that a tiny bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold, the bird froze and fell to the ground in the large field. While that poor thing lying there, a cow came by and dropped dung on it. As the frozen bird lay there in a pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was. The manure was thawing him out. He lay there all warm and happy and soon began to sing for joy. A passing cat heard the bird's singing and came to investigate. By following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung and promptly dug him out and ate that bird.

And lastly, when you are in deep shit, keep your mouth shut. Remember this as one of my teachings Edwin, as this is not some made-up story but a lesson taught by life to me. Edwin nodded and went to sleep peacefully. Thinking about someday, he might encounter this kind of scenario.

The next day, Edwin took farewell from the orphanage and Murphy. Everyone arrived at a given time, except Myles. Tobias, Ashley, Bruce were waiting for Edwin and Myles.

After Ewin arrived, they waited for half-hour. Still, no sign of Myles. Bruce ordered Edwin to go and check on him. Myles arrived in the nick of time when Edwin was going to look for him. Bruce asked Myles about his delayed arrival to the rendezvous point. First, Myles apologizes for being late. Then he told them because of some personal business Myles was late.

Myles asked Bruce, where are the horses, sir? Bruce sarcastically asked Myles, who are you suppose to be a VIP?

Tobias told Myles, no princess, we have to go on foot. Ashley addressed both Tobias and Myles as idiots.

For the last time, Bruce ordered to check everyone their weapons and luggage, though it was only one weapon and one bag each of them was carrying.. After checking, they left the capital for Colveil.
