The Nemesis

Chapter 7 - Rank and Factions

David's words and his way of thinking made an impact on Edwin. The night before the trip, he couldn't sleep because of excitement. He knew all of his classmates but didn't take any interest in them. What's he will be going to do, he is thinking.

As per the previous chapter, Edwin is not talented. To overcome that, he developed a habit or some self-practice. Every night he used to analyze what did he learned today. Whether it is his study or the sort of knowledge like David gave him. He believes that whatever someone taught him would be no use if he didn't implement to do better by himself.

On top of that, he had quite an observation skill. The funny thing is that he observed people around him, never did up to the mark self-observation. He laughed at himself.

The next day, David formed the seven groups with five individuals in them. As Edwin has only 35 classmates, he was left behind. But David took care of that. He invited four kids from the upper class.

It means those four individuals were seniors to Edwin by one year. David told Edwin to meet and greet with them. Edwin approached them, and since he is too shy to speak, he maintained silence and turned away. The thoughts clicked in his head. What am I doing? I don't suppose to turn away. Let's face it.

There are two boys and two girls in that group. Edwin is about to say something but, the mentors asked all of them to ȧssemble. They are giving them instructions.

Each team would take a random map of the Hiddenite. There are eight different spots in the forest of Comberg woods. Even though the forest itself is not dangerous, it may cause some trouble so, beware. With maps, they also provided one flare to use only in case of an emergency. Paths of the different groups may collide with each other. But remember, each map has a specific tag. The tag of map and tag of Hiddenite must be the same. Duration to find and bring respective Hiddenites in one week. Of course, we all are monitoring you. So no inappropriate activities such as fights and mischiefs would be tolerated.

One by one group got their maps, and they all headed towards the forest. Each group went with different paths. While each group is leaving sequentially, they (the individuals of Edwin's group) speak with Edwin. Their names are Chad Barnes, Dean Cook, Freya Baxter, and Katie Lynn. They are of the ages between 12-13. Unlike others, they didn't avoid Edwin. They were polite and friendly to him. With little introductions, they started moving towards the Comberg woods.

Soon, after traveling for half a day, they arrived nearby the forest. They thought before it all gets dark, they should set a camp. Chad, Dean, and Edwin set the camp while Freya and Katie went to pick some woods. At night they had a conversation. Edwin wondered why these guys are participating in this activity if they are already in the higher class. Out of curiosity, Edwin asked them about the reason for their presence.

Chad explained that these three with himself are shift early in the upper class. They missed such kinds of activities, and David knew this thing. He insisted on taking part in it. Again, Edwin gets curious about their promotion. He asked them what separates them to get promoted early.

Katie answered that she and these three guys have natural talent in magic as well as combat. So, the mentors decided to teach them that early.

They will soon achieve the rank of 'Ar.'

In the warrior class, there five different ranks as follows:

'Ar' - The pass-outs from the warrior academy. Ar stands for an ensign.

'Zar'- Capable magic users and have high evaluation points as Ar. Zar stands for lieutenant.

'Ezar'- Excellent Zar later can get promotion to Ezar. Ezar stands for Captain.

'Kezar'- Further promotion from the Ezar rank. Kezar to remain a captain or serve to the special units such as ȧssassination and spy units.

In addition to that, there are three different factions in all of the ranks such as combat, speed, Sorcery. Combat faction specializes in close-range battles. The second faction has better agility, and mostly they avoid close combat, or you can say they are effective in mid-range. And lastly, Sorcery is the class of wizards who excels in the use of magic. The faction in which all these four guys are aiming.

Edwin roughly had any ideas about all of this. He asked Freya and Dean about their future choices. They both responded the same. Edwin wanted to know more about the factions. Freya told him that she knew the kinds of magic.

There are four Divination, Incantations, Alchemy, and Elemental.

Divination is the practice of seeking knowledge of the future or the unknown by supernatural means. Only mages can use this kind.

Alchemy is a seemingly magical process of transformation, creation, or combination.

Elemental magic is tough to learn and control. In this kind, a user can manipulate or use the elements for magic. If someone is extraordinary, they can use this in any faction.

Long ago, elemental magic was specific for each continent. Like Nero used the Water-type elemental magic, Floga used Fire, Edafos used Earth, and Anemos used the Wind type. Before extinction, Astrop used lightning type, and Oranos used ice type.

Since this whole world becomes democratic, people shared knowledge. Those elemental types didn't remain the specialty of those continents. Still, respective lands have their forte.

Katie told everyone that they had forgotten one type of faction. The fourth one, 'Universal.' The individual is universal if they have born with a zodiac sign on the body. Besides, the fourth faction people have the liberty to choose their faction. Edwin took a keen interest in Sorcery. He admits that he wants to be in that faction.. Later, They all finished their eating and chatting and went to take a rest.
