The Unsurpassed Maiden
Chapter 106 - 106 - Let's Go Invisible
When the light emitting from the necklace finally fades, Mi Young and the others immediately look at the necklace. However, what they saw wasn't a pendant hanging around the young girl's neck. Instead, a purple book was already on top of Mi Young's hands.
"It's back on its right size!" Mi Young exclaims as she looks at the book in her hands.
"See, I told you it would work." Jang Hoon says while he watches the scene from the other cell.
Mi Young looked up at him and gave him a small smile. "Thank you."
"Now, you need to know how to use it. Did you ever schemed through its content when you bought it?" Kwang Soo asks, eyeing the purple book on the other student's hands.
"No. I was about to but the Vice Captain of the guards kept on pestering me." Mi Young says while she recalls the event earlier with the Vice Captain.
Kwang Soo didn't say much and only let out a soft hum. He tells Mi Young to open the book and see what was written inside so they can know what the book can help.
"It's full of spells." The black haired girl says while scanning the words written on the book. As she kept on turning one page to another, her eyes seemed to get wider with how much knowledge and amount of different spells was written on the book. "This is…wow, this can make a whole new generation of Mages."
"It's a rare artifact and one that was made by the First Seelie Queen, of course it would be full of amazing and powerful spells." The buff man says with a proud look. "Check if there is something that can help us escape."
Mi Young nodded her head at the man before she started checking out the book. However, just as she was about to turn another page, Kwang Soo asks something that made her stop.
"Wait, how did you learn how to read the Old language? That's the Old language of the Mages, right?" The senior asks while looking at Mi Young with confusion.
Mi Young panicked for a second since it wasn't known to anyone that she could read the lost language. When she was about to answer, the man from the other cell besides theirs, spoke. "Wait—there's a new language?"
Both students looked at the man with widened eyes. It was Kwang Soo who asked first, "What do you mean?"
The man points at the book Mi Young was holding and says with a serious voice, "I mean, that's the only language I knew! Is there any other Mage language in the whole kingdom?"
The two students looked at each other, both their eyes reflecting confusion and suspicion. Kwang Soo nodded his head at Mi Young. Knowing what the other party meant to say, the black haired girl gulps down a lump of saliva in her throat before she opens her mouth to ask Jang Hoon a question.
"What was the exact year you've been put in prison here?" The young girl asks in a small curious voice.
Jang Hoon looks up for a second. He had this confused and questioning expression on his face that tells Mi Young and Kwang Soo that he's indeed trying to recount the years he's been prisoned. After a couple of seconds, the man moves his gaze back at Mi Young to answer her question. "I don't remember much but it was a couple of months after Tartarus was sealed."
Sealed. Mi Young hears that word again. No matter how many times she tries to ignore that fact, reality just keeps on reminding her about it.
Thinking that the black haired girl went silent because of the strange truth unraveling in front of them, it was Kwang Soo who asked another question towards the buff man.
"Are you sure it was during that year?"
The man nodded his head. "Pretty sure it was the same year."
Kwang Soo bites his lip as he regards the buff man. He was having a hard time telling the man the truth.
"Don't worry, I know I've been here for a long time already so I lost track of the years. And I really don't care since I know no one is looking for me now." The man says in a positive voice. Kwang Soo looks up at him to see his expression and he was surprised that the man was indeed not affected at all.
"To tell you the truth, it has been thousands of years already since Tartarus fell into the hands of the Big Four." Kwang Soo says in a soft and gentle voice. He sees the buff man freeze for a second before he goes back to his usual demeanor.
"Is it?" The man asks in a slightly lower tone. Then he shrugs and continues, "I guess I've been here for a long time already."
After that, he let out an awkward laugh that didn't reach his eyes at all. Kwang Soo knows he was trying to sound positive but he doesn't know how to comfort other people so he remained mute. He looks to his side and sees the black haired girl looking on her own feet, fist clenched on her side and shoulders stiff.
The senior slightly bumped his shoulders on the girl's shoulder to ask if she was okay. Mi Young slowly looked up at him and offered a small smile. "I'm fine."
"You sure? I mean, it's pretty sick actually but look, he's okay with it so don't think about it that much, okay?" Kwang Soo asks, trying to sound cheerful as he ruffles the black haired girl's hair. This caused the younger party to top out and send him a small glare.
"So young girl? How's your spell hunting going?" The buff man suddenly questions, making My Young jumped from where she was standing.
Remembering what her agenda was, Mi Young went back to scanning the book.
It took her a couple of minutes before she finally found the right spell.
"Here." The black haired girl says while pointing at the page that showed a spell about turning invisible. "I read the rest and there's no spell that talks about escaping. However, the closest one is a spell that makes one go invisible."
"Invisible?" Kwang Soo asks.
"That's great. Although, the only downside of being invisible is that you get to remain as a solid thing except that no one can see you." The buff man says while gripping his own chin. "But that is really helpful still."
"Then let's do it." Kwang Soo says.
"Wait, you mean now? As in now?" Mi Young asks while looking back and forth between the two taller males.
Kwang Soo and Jang Hoon didn't give her any verbal reply except they both nodded their heads while looking at Mi Young with determination.
"Sh*t." Mi Young couldn't help but whisper. She suddenly felt pressured with how much the two other people were counting on her. "Can you guys give me a few moments to practice for a bit? Who knows, I might make the wrong spell and turn you into smoke. You know…for safety purposes."
This made the two guys think for a second. Seeing that Mi Young was visibly nervous, the two males gave her an encouraging smile before they told her that they can wait. Mi Young thanked them after that and scurried off to the other corner of her shred cell with Kwang Soo.
She sits down on the ground and places her purple book on the floor, just right in front of her. After that, she starts to read the words written on the page.
The book was direct with its directions. It said that one should be able to completely manifest the invisibility spell if one has already attained the highest peak of Meditation. Reading this, Mi Young silently thanks her teacher Ning Gwang for making her master that magic technique.
She reads the rest of the instructions and studies it for a bit. After practically spending her time reading the page again and again and fully digesting the whole idea into her mind, Mi Young deems herself ready.
The black haired girl positions herself to a more comfortable sitting position. She then draws out a deep breath before she finally closes her eyes. Since she had already mastered the Art of Meditation, it was already too easy for her to reach the highest peak of it.
When she felt that her mind was not completely blank and that her mana power and mana energy had now reached its most balanced form, Mi Young proceeded to the next part of the process, which was to draw her mana out from her body.
The young girl didn't know how to do it at first. However, as she called for her mana to come out, she suddenly felt a strong feeling of something burning covering her whole body. She wanted to open her eyes and check it out but she stopped herself knowing that the process shouldn't be interrupted or else she would have to start from the top again. After that, she chants the exact spell written on the book.
She remembered something written on the page about one's body feeling a sense of cooling after being burned, that's the cue that the person doing the spell has already successfully managed to make their whole body go invisible.
Although Mi Young doesn't realize it yet, she only managed to open her eyes when she heard Kwang Soo let out a series of cusses.. That's when she knew that she had gone full invisible.
"It's back on its right size!" Mi Young exclaims as she looks at the book in her hands.
