The Unsurpassed Maiden

Chapter 123 - 123 - Too Much Mana

The loud noise can still be heard throughout the whole room.

The black haired girl curses out as she hears the heavy footsteps of the giant beast coming after her. Mi Young wonders if Hae Choon is okay and if he's also hiding.

When the beast roared once more, Mi Young immediately knew that it was up to something. Its roar was different from the rest of its roar. It wasn't like its usual roar where he just sounded angry and aggressive. Its roar this time sounded off, like it was calling out for something.

Seconds later, the loud noise that was coming from the speaker suddenly stops, as well as the loud breathing that the young girl usually hears from the beast.

"What is it up to this time?" Mi Young whispers more to herself as she tries to hide her small body using the large glass that was containing a body of a winged creature.

Mi Young wanted to check where the beast was currently at so she peeked behind the glass and roamed her eyes to look for the beast. However, the creature was nowhere to be found.

"Impossible…" Mi Young whispers while she tries to look for the beats once more. "With its body size it could never hide behind these glasses."

The black haired girl continued to sneak behind the glass where she was hiding to look for the beast. She was very confused. However, her question was finally answered when she felt a sudden chill behind her.

Mi Young gulps down a lump that was forming on her throat when she felt something move behind her. The young student slowly turns around to confirm her suspicion.

The young girl didn't even have enough time to react when the beast, who was surprisingly behind her now, was now looking at her with its four red and angry eyes, ready to attack the moment Mi Young makes a sudden move.

'Keep calm. Don't panic. Don't panic.' Those were the same words that kept on running inside her mind as she stared back at the beast in front of her. She remembered Hae Choon saying that it would only get aggressive once you show signs of aggressiveness as well. So the black haired girl tries her best to keep her thoughts and her temperature from rising.

Mi Young slowly steps toward her left so she can escape the beast. "Nice beasty…I'm not food."

The black haired girl continued to keep her eye contact with the beast as she slowly walked to her left, trying her very best not to run right there as the beast continued to stare at her.

Mi Young was so close to getting away from it when she suddenly hit something with her foot. She looked at it and realized it was something that looked like a button. She thought that it wasn't something to worry about so she was about to continue walking. However, the moment she lifts her foot away from the button, the room's light suddenly turns red and all of the alarms start going off.

The beast's reaction was immediate as it quickly ran towards the young girl's direction. Mi Young had no other choice but to run as fast as she could and away from the beast.

She couldn't stop from cursing anyone who put the alarm button on the floor. Mi Young turned to her right to hide behind a pillar but the beast was still following closely behind her.

"I need to get away from it…" Mi Young whispers as she runs for her life.

The black haired girl continued to turn towards every corner she sees just to keep the beast's eyes off of her. When she was about to turn to her left after a couple of turns, a hand suddenly pulled her to the other side.

The young girl was about to let out a scream when a hand suddenly stopped her.

"Shush!" Hae Choon whispers as he presses his hands on the young girl's mouth. He also put his finger against his lips to tell the other party to keep quiet. Mi Young nodded her head as Hae Choon slowly moved his hand away from the young student's mouth.

The two of them remained frozen in their place as they felt the footsteps of the giant beast who was still running after its prey. Little did the beast realize that its prey had already gone the other way.

When Mi Young and Hae Choon felt like the beast was on the other side of the room, they started to talk.

"Don't think about anything else. Keep your temperature and your heart rate cool. It might sense us if it can feel your heartbeat." Hae Choon explains calmly.

The beast roared once more. Mi Young wipes away the sweat forming on her forehead as she gives Hae Choon a grateful smile. "Thank you by the way."

"You saved me earlier. That was my payback." Hae Choon replies as he finally slumps down on the floor and leans against the glass display behind them.

Mi Young sees another creature with wings inside the glass where they are hiding from and she couldn't help but shiver when she realized that despite being dead, the creature's eyes were wide open. It's as if it was looking straight into the young girl's soul.

The black haired girl only snaps away from her thoughts when she hears Hae Choon let out a sigh.

"What do we do now?" Mi Young questions as she finally takes her gaze off from the creature inside the glass display. "Why do we keep on attracting beasts?"

"The real question is, how did they ever find all these beasts?" Hae Choon says while gesturing at the thousands of glass displays in front of them which all have different savage beasts inside. "Not to mention that they also have human bodies everywhere."

"I don't know. What I don't understand is why do they keep the beasts and humans together? I thought they both have different rooms for the humans and the beasts hey have experimented on?" Mi Young fires back while she looks at the glass displays as well.

"That too." Hae Choon says.

They remained silent after that, still trying to catch their breaths and keep their cool so the giant beast couldn't find them. They heard the beast let out a roar a couple of times as if it was trying to tell them to come out and show themselves. But Mi Young and Hae Choon are too tired to deal with it.

"How about I use my spell book?" The young girl asks after a huge silence took over them.

"It's too dangerous to use your spell book here."

"Why?"

"There are thousands of dormant mana still lingering in the atmosphere. If you use your spell book it might wake their mana and can cause more trouble for us." Hae Choon replies.

"What's that supposed to do with my spell book?" Mi Young questions. She doesn't get what the other party was trying to tell her.

Hae Choon sighs before closing his eyes. "Dormant mana from dead creatures can be awakened through spells. They are very sensitive and can create friction between the two realms. Dormant mana are still active and can very much cause trouble for the people who are using spells."

Mi Young shakes her head. "I still don't get it."

Hae Choon scratches his head before continuing his explanation. "Example using a normal spell that can help us go invisible. A spell like that requires only your own mana, right?"

Mi Young nodded her head to tell Hae Choon to continue his explanation.

"Now, imagine having extra mana all around you while doing that spell. Not to mention that these mana are very much alive – which means they are still active and are attracted to the most active mana energy around them. These mana will immediately flow towards you the moment you start your spell. So even though you only used a little portion of your mana to go invisible, some of the dormant mana around you will boost up the spell you just made creating another kind of spell that can be bad for you."

"Isn't that amazing then? I mean, your spell can become more powerful."

"No. Spells are like food recipes that need the right ingredient for them to work properly. If you used too much mana for a spell that only required 1% of yours, it can backfire." Hae Choon explains.

"Which means…"

"Which means that if you try to use an invisibility spell right now, with these much mana all around you, you might become invisible forever." Hae Choon says. "That's how important it is to use the exact amount of mana while creating a spell. It's not like some child play that you can use anytime you want. Creating spells requires experience and knowledge. So from now on, don't just think about solving all your problems by using a spell. Okay?"

Mi Young bites her lip as she nodded her head at Hae Choon.
