The Unsurpassed Maiden

"Who?" Mi Young asks, genuinely curious and excited at the same time.

Lady Ning Gwang regards her for a second before she smiles softly at the black haired girl seeing the excitement in her student's eyes. She clasps her hands together while resting her chin on top of her closed hands, then she leans forward so Mi Young can hear her clearly while she whispers to her. "But before I tell you so, how sure are you that you can learn this technique?"

Mi Young looks taken aback for a second because of the sudden question but she thinks for a while before answering her teacher. "Well, I'm not really sure but I am a hundred percent sure I will get it as long as the one who will teach me is a genius."

Lady Ning Gwang burst out in fits of laughter right after hearing the black haired girl's words, not even caring that she's breaking her own rules inside the library. "Oh my, I'm sure he will definitely love your attitude. Don't worry, your teacher is going to be a genius. However…"

"However, what?"

"However, it depends if he is willing to take you in as his student." The librarian says while eyeing Mi Young with a mischievous glint in her eyes. "After all, he's from a very prideful clan."

"Are you sure this is the right place?" Mi Young asks while looking at the shabby looking cottage located at the back part of the academy. "It looks….it looks like it's not a place for a man from a 'prideful clan' to reside."

Lady Ning Gwang laughs once more upon hearing Mi Young's comment. "Another lesson I want to teach you is that you should never judge a book by its cover. Let alone a man living in a ragged place like this."

Mi Young was about to protest when she heard a scream coming from the small cottage in front of them. Both her and the librarian immediately turned their heads towards the source of the sudden commotion when suddenly a scared young man came out from the door.

He was definitely in a hurry that he didn't even spare them any glance at all, not even bowing to the teacher in front of him. Then after a moment, a tall handsome man walks out from the door, looking pissed as hell.

"That's right! SCRAM!" The man yells after the runaway boy. He crosses his arms before continuing, "Ungrateful children like you who think they're talented are a huge embarrassment to the academy. Students these days are definitely a shame."

Just as he was about to go inside his hut, he notices Mi Young and Ning Gwang's presence.

The tall handsome man grunts while looking at the white haired librarian, it's obvious that he doesn't look please seeing the white haired woman. "You're here again. What do you want, Ning Gwang?"

"Can't I just visit an old friend?" Lady Ning Gwang speaks, sounding flirty and teasing at the same time.

The man rolled his eyes before his gaze fell on the student standing beside the beautiful librarian. "I see you have brought a brat with you again. How many times do I have to tell you I'm not going to teach any unworthy students anything? Kids these days are all a bunch of ruffians who want nothing but power."

Lady Ning Gwang was about to answer the other man to defend her student but Mi Young beat her to it, speaking up for herself instead. "Excuse me, Sir. Even if I don't know you aside from the fact that teacher Ning Gwang told me that you are a strong man with huge potential, I think it's best if you do not judge a book by its cover. How can you say that all students are the same when you haven't met all of them?"

"Hmph. You are not just arrogant but you talk back as well." The man says with a snobbish tone. Then he turns his gaze back towards Lady Ning Gwang, "The last student you brought here was very talented indeed. However, his pride would be his downfall. And now, you are bringing me a…little girl…who is two times more arrogant than the previous one. Don't you have any preference for students, Ning Gwang?"

"Oh my, you are as feisty as always, brother." Lady Ning Gwang says while giving the man another flirtatious smile. "But just like my student said, you should not judge a book by its cover."

"The answer is no. Even if you convince me that this kid is powerful and talented, if she is as arrogant as the previous one, then she is not worthy of my teachings. Good luck and you better find someone who can teach her." That was all what the man said before he shut his door in front of Lady Ning Gwang and the black haired girl.

Mi Young doesn't care if he's the only one who has the potential to teach her to know more about the rare battle techniques she has encountered while fighting Kris. But if the man is not welcoming at all, then she will have to find some other way to learn those secret techniques instead.

"It's useless, teacher. If he doesn't want to teach me then so be it. I'm not going to push myself for a man like that to teach me." The black haired girl says before she starts to walk off away from the arrogant man's hut. Lady Ning Gwang was right, the man is indeed a prideful person. Mi Young wonders if he is a man from the Jeon clan.

"Brother Zhong isn't always like that. He's just very irritable considering his age." The librarian says, stills standing in front of the hut but facing away from the door and looking directly at Mi Young.

"What do you mean? Is he old? He looks like he's the same age as you."

The librarian laughs at Mi Young's words. "Why? What do you think my age is?"

Mi Young thinks for a second before answering her teacher's silly question. "In your late 20's I supposed?"

The white haired woman laughs out loud once more, just like the one she did back in the library. Her laugh sounded airy and genuine. Mi Young is mesmerized with how graceful and lady-like her teacher looks even with her laughing hard like that.

"Am I? That's great to know that I look like that in your eyes." The librarian replies after she finally settles down. Then with a smile she continues, "Because of that, I will personally help you gain Brother Zhong's trust and approval. I'm sure he will find you definitely worth it to be called his student."

"Is he that good? But he doesn't want me to be his student and I really don't like pushing myself to others."

"Don't worry. Brother Zhong is really capable and he has lots of knowledge when it comes to secret techniques, especially the lost ones. Aside from that, all you have to do to earn his trust is to pass his test." The librarian says.

Mi Young looks towards her, confused. "What test?"

"You will have to amaze him using your abilities." The beautiful librarian says with a wink.

"How the hell am I going to amaze him by entering this place?" Mi Young asks her teacher in disbelief.

"Of all the places here in the academy, Brother Zhong likes staying more on this one. This is also the place where he loves to look for talents." Lady Ning Gwang says while eyeing the huge banner on the top of the building with words written in the current Mage language as Beast Club. "Unfortunately, he has seen none at all which is why it's the best place for you to go so he can see with his own eye how talented you are!"

"You look excited, teacher. If I would have known, you're way more interested in this club than teacher Zhong." Mi Young comments while giving her teacher a suspicious look.

"Oh shut up you little rascal, let's go inside." The librarian said in a hurry and with obvious excitement in her voice.

Mi Young sighs before shrugging her shoulders. If this is the only way she can earn the trust of that arrogant teacher, then she better try her luck.

The inside of the Beast Club was crowded. The place also smells like literal beasts and…men.

"If you are wondering why it smells like men here, it's because most of the people who enter this place are well….males." Lady Ning Gwang says with a shrug.

They both passed a series of hallways until they finally entered a huge double door. The once quiet corridors is now replaced with hundreds of people all looking at something at the center of the room.

"What's that?" Mi Young questions while squinting her eyes to look at the thing everyone was looking at which is located at the center of the stage.

"That's the stage." Lady Ning Gwang answers.

Mi Young rolls her eyes at her teacher before saying, "Wow thank you teacher I never knew what a stage looked like."

"Such a smart mouth." Lady Ning Gwang comments.

Mi Young beamed at her, "I learned from no one else but you."

The librarian rolled her eyes at her student's joke before searching for someone in the crowd.

When she spots who she was looking for, she whispers to Mi Young while pointing at the person sitting at the front part of the seats which is the nearest towards the stage.

"There's Brother Zhong!"

"What is he doing there? Wait, why are we here exactly?" Mi Young questions. She still doesn't know why her teacher brought her here and what it has to do to get the arrogant teacher to teach her.

Lady Ning Gwang looks at her, "You still don't get it even while standing here?"

The black haired girl shakes her head innocently at her teacher.

"Well, Mi Young. It's time for you to learn and join the contest on how to fight a beast." The librarian says before she presses a button from a remote she was holding that Mi Young didn't even notice.

After saying those words a spotlight was pointed towards Mi Young while all the eyes in the room turned towards her.

'What the actual f*ck is her teacher thinking?'
