The Unsurpassed Maiden

Mi Young can feel all eyes on her as the spotlight continues to glare at her, reminding her of the sudden decision her teacher made for her.

"And what do we have here? Another contender?" A man's voice says through the microphone. The once rowdy and loud crowd turned silent upon looking at the young little girl standing in the center of the spotlight. "May I know what your name is, Miss?"

"K-Kang Mi Young…" The black haired girl answers with hesitation. She looks everywhere to try and look for her teacher but everything's too bright given that the spotlight is still focused on her.

"Well, Miss Kang Mi Young, I hope you're here just to watch a man and a beast fight each other." The man says. This earned a few laughter coming from the crowd. "Or perhaps you're looking for your babysitter?"

The crowd erupted into another round of laughter once more which irritated Mi Young to the extent. She crosses her arms before finally looking at the MC who was giving her an innocent smile.

"Well, I'm here to fight off some beast." Mi Young deadpans. The crowd turned quiet.

"Beast? If you're looking for baby beasts to fight with, they're still in the hatchling room. If you want to fight with them you can wait for two to three days before they can finally walk since they were just born yesterday." The man answers with a sly smile, his comment earning a series of laughter from the audience once more.

Mi Young can feel her angry vein about to pop off from her head because of how mad she was getting. But she remained calm and remembered why she was here. She smiled sweetly at the man before saying, "I want to challenge the strongest beast inside the walls of this Beast Club."

Mi Young doesn't know where she got that idea and courage but all she wanted to do was to prove to every man in this room that girls can also become strong, even stronger than them. She even forgot her main reason why she entered this club with her teacher. The thought of impressing the genius teacher is totally forgotten now that she needs to prove herself in front of all these people who can't stop laughing at her.

The MC laughed at Mi Young's sentence but when he saw how serious the black haired girl's expression was, he too turned serious. "Are you really sure you're here to fight with a beast? Not just a beast but the strongest beast?"

"Uhn. Or are you chickening out as well and can't produce a strong beast that can beat me?" The black haired girl challenges. The crowd turned silent upon hearing the arrogant tone coming from the young girl.

The MC let out a laugh but you can also hear the hint of awkwardness that comes with it. "Very well. If you wish to fight with the strongest beast here, then it's your right as a contender. But I'm telling you, this beast is not just an ordinary beast, but he is known to be the most cunning and strongest beast in the entire academy."

"Whatever. Bring him to me." The black haired girl says without even thinking about the MC's words.

After a couple of minutes, Mi Young was led to the center of the stage, she even caught a glimpse of the genius teacher who was sitting in the front of the bleachers, looking serious. Mi Young decided to ignore him and focus on making her heart stop beating like crazy.

She was really nervous and her mind was repeating the same words all over again.

'What the hell are you even thinking, young lad?' Mi Young wanted to bang her head on the nearest wall and pray to the gods to take her right there and then. She doesn't know why she's always so loose-lip and says things she will regret later. All Mi Young could think about is that she doesn't want to feel inferior to anyone. Not again. Not ever.

So the black haired girl focuses her head into taking deep breaths and making her heart stop thumping thunderously inside her chest.

Then, a huge roar suddenly echoed all throughout the arena, making everyone fall silent.

There was another series of roar before the flapping of wings could be heard, but still there were no signs of the beast.

Mi Young, as well as the other people in the crowd, waited for the beast to come but there was still nothing.

Everyone started murmuring as their eyes searched above, waiting for the huge and the strongest beast to arrive.

"Where is it?" Mi Young hears the MC ask a man who scratched his head and shrugged at him. "Where is it?! Everyone is waiting!"

The man tells the MC something before he scurries off somewhere, probably looking for the beast.

The MC goes back to the stage before he clears his throat and announces, "I'm sorry for the delay, ladies and gentlemen. The beast is just so hungry that it decided to hunt for food first before going into a fight. But don't worry, we made sure that he isn't able to get some food so he will fight hungry and mad."

Instead of being concerned for the black haired girl who was tasked to fight off the supposedly strongest, not to mention hungry beast, everyone cheered upon hearing the MC's words. They are so fired up to see a girl fight off a giant beast that they forgot that the one who is supposed to face the beast is just a mere student.

Mi Young gulped when she heard another roar echoing through the whole arena.

When the shadow of a beast started to appear on the ceiling, everyone in the crowd started to cheer loudly.

"There it is!"

"That's the Green Dragon!"

"Oh boy, the girl is going to get killed!"

"Poor girl, I hope this teaches every arrogant student a lesson that not everyone can conquer beasts!"

Mi Young heard a bunch of useless and stupid comments everywhere around her that her mind is going crazy.

Then she realized something that made her expression darken.

Everyone around here doesn't care if a person gets killed fighting off a beast or a beast dying because of fighting. All these bunch of idiots can think of is winning money for entertainment. Mi Young hates them all.

"Before the beast is released, I want you to place your bets to whoever you think would win between this fight!" The MC announces. There was a joyful look on his face and Mi Young wanted nothing but to punch him right there. "If you think the Green Dragon would win, please press the blue button on the remote you all are holding. And if you think that our little Miss Kang Mi Young would win, then please press the red button, not that anyone would do that."

Another series of laughter came from the people watching, which Mi Young completely ignored because she knows that all of the people present here are a bunch of idiots anyway.

"Very we—"

"Wait!" Mi Young suddenly says while raising her hand up. The MC looks at her before he shrugs and gives her the microphone. "I want to say something first."

The MC smiles before saying, "That's good. Last words are good before someone dies."

The audience laughed once more.

"Well, if you guys think that the Green Dragon would win then you'll get your money right?" Mi Young starts to say. This confuses the people watching them. However the MC nodded before saying a yes to the black haired girl's question. "Then, if I win, can I request something instead of getting the prize money I'm supposed to get?"

"Do you really think you can win against the strongest beast in the Beast Club?" A man  shouts from the crowd.

"Where is the beast?! Bring him immediately so he can teach this arrogant kid a lesson!"

"What an insolent child! Did your mother teach you well?"

"Let's just hope the beast will do his job to her, I can't wait to get my money."

"There's nothing wrong in making the child speak, who knows it could be her last words." The MC jokes out, silencing the crowd and letting them laugh again. "What is it you want, child?"

"First of all, I am not a child. I'm turning eighteen in a couple of days but whatever. Anyway, if I win this fight I want to own this Beast Club." Mi Young deadpans. The MC laughs at the girl's comment, including everyone watching from the bleachers. But Mi Young ignored them all before continuing her proposal. "I want to own everything inside these walls. That includes the beasts, money, staff, everything."

"Aren't you a little too ambitious, young girl?" The MC asks with a smile. However, his smile didn't reach his eyes.

"Well, you said I couldn't win a fight against this beast so all you have to say is 'yes' since you're confident that I would lose. Or…" Mi Young starts to say, "Or are you too scared that I can have a chance to win against this beast of yours?"

The MC laughs out loud before straightening up his body. "Very well! As you request! Even if it's impossible, I will grant your request as the owner of the Beast Club."

"Swear on the oath." Mi Young says. The MC as well as some people in the crowd looks taken aback hearing those words coming out from the mouth of a seventeen year old girl.

Everyone knows that swearing an oath to the gods is a heavy promise and seal that would bind you to a promise or a condition you made to another party or even to yourself alone. If one swears on an oath, he or she needs to abide by its rules and as well as everything  that comes along with the promise. However, if one breaks the oath, then that person will have to suffer the consequences. Which is death.

Since the MC is a prideful man and he is confident that the young girl will lose, he cuts a small portion of his fingers and lets some of his blood drop. Then he shakes his hands with Mi Young's. "I swear on the oath."

After saying those words, there was a loud thunder that echoed from the skies. A sign that the oath is sealed.

Mi Young smiled at the man before she bows to him. Then the MC walked off stage so the fight could finally start.

The MC announces through the speakers that the beast will finally be release. The crowd cheers one more time before a giant flying beast come flying above them.

Mi Young can already feel her heart on her throat as she looks at the dark scales of the beast that was flying high above her.

She closes her eyes and prays to the gods that everything will be okay.
