The Unsurpassed Maiden

"Hey, long time no see." The other party says while flashing Mi Young and Kwang Soo his famous grin.

"What are you doing here?" Mi Young asks, shock evident in her face and voice.

The man sighs before saying, "I tried to bring you here with me earlier but you won't listen to me. But either way, you somehow found your way here so it's just the same. So? How did you find this place anyway?"

Mi Young looked at Kwang Soo who was just staring at the man with his usual blank face. "I bought her here."

"Obviously. But I asked 'how' did you find this place? I mean, you're not from this city and this place is located at a place no visitors should have known unless…."

"Are you suggesting that I'm a spy of a certain movement?" Kwang Soo finishes his sentence without even batting an eye.

The Vice Captain of the guards laughed bashfully at him, "I didn't say that but if you really are, I  should probably throw you to the dungeons right now."

"You won't dare." Kwang Soo answers in a challenging voice.

The other male smirks at him again before saying, "You do not know me at all."

There was some kind of tension that filled the atmosphere. None of the two said anything at all for the last two minutes and it's affecting Mi Young. The tension between the two males is making her feel suffocated so without meaning to, she says in a whisper,

"So? Why are you here again, Vice Captain?" Mi Young asks, even emphasizing the rank of the man.

The blue haired male shifts his attention from the other male and towards the young female student. "For fun."

"Fun? This abandoned house is fun for you?"

The male grins again before saying, "You can't imagine how many things a male can do while he is alone."

Mi Young, despite being in her current teenage years, knew exactly what the other party meant. She crosses her arms at him again and says in an irritated voice, "Why did I even bother talking to you?"

The Vice Captain was about to answer something to her but the black haired girl started talking again, completely cutting him off. "Kwang Soo, why don't we leave already? There's nothing else here except stupidity."

The senior didn't budge at first but when he felt the heavy and at the same time questioning gaze coming from the young girl, he sighs before finally losing eye contact with the blue haired Vice Captain. "Fine. Come on, let's go."

"Wait! Are you two really leaving?"

"Don't mind him." Mi Young whispers before preparing to leave once more. However, the Vice Captain stops them again.

"Come on, you've come a long way already, so it's best if you guys would like to explore more of this establishment, right? Plus, your hard efforts into sneaking inside here would have gone to waste if you just went home like that." The male tries to reason out. He even had the audacity to give Mi Young puppy eyes.

"Don't touch me." Mi Young says with an annoyed voice. "Tell us a very good reason why we should follow you."

"Well, according to your teacher it's a rare opportunity that you could leave the academy's walls. Plus, this city is not easy to find and infiltrate You don't know how lucky you guys were that you were able to get inside our floating city." The Vice Captain says.

"What do you mean?"

The Vice Captain scoffs at Mi Young before saying, "Did you really think that we would let you in that easily? All visitors and other people who try to come inside our city must go to our city's trial first before they can be able to enter."

"Then why did you let us in that easily earlier?" The black haired girl asks, eyeing the man with an intense gaze.

"Your teacher has the same sigil as our Grand Master." The Vice Captain says, looking at Mi Young dead in the eyes.

Hearing this, Mi Young now knew how important family sigils are. She wondered if her father also has a family sigil of their own. However, she remembered that he was just a normal man who came from an average family, so Mi Young thinks that they wouldn't have their own sigil.

"Hey? Were you listening?" Kwang Soo asks, noticing the sudden blank look coming from the other party.

"W-What?"

The senior sighs before saying, "This guy was asking weird things."

"What was he asking about this time?' Mi Young questions while looking at Kwang Soo with furrowed eyebrows.

"Uh hello? Can't you two just talk to me directly? I'm here." The Vice Captain says while waving his hands so he can catch the two students' attention. When Kwang Soo and Mi Young both turned to look at him, he smiled, "That's right. You can talk to me."

"What were you asking about earlier?"

"Oh. I was just asking your friend here if he knows the real relationship between our Grand Master and your teacher." The Vice Captain says in a nonchalant voice.

"Why are you asking? And I thought Lady Ning Gwang already told you guys earlier." Mi Young says.

"That they are cousins?" The blue haired man asks. When he sees the expression coming from the two, he laughs. "Please. Everyone who visited the Grand Master says that they are cousins. For all I know, those were just some spies trying to lure and assassinate our Grand Master if they have the chance. That's why we are very careful into letting any strangers inside our city."

"You mean there were a lot of attempts already?"

The blue haired male nodded his head in affirmation. "Uhn. Good thing our Grand Master is a smart and skilled woman. If she was an ordinary one, she would have been long gone."

There was something dark in the man's voice when he said those last four words that Mi Young couldn't quite comprehend. It was a mixture of all kinds of emotions, that's why she couldn't decipher the real feelings behind the man's words.

"And if we tell you that they are really cousins, what would you do?"

"Are they really?" The man asks while giving Mi Young and Kwang Soo an uncertain glance. "I mean, sure, they have the family resemblance and good figure. But there are also a lot of Mages out there who can put strong illusions in our eyes. What if you were just deceiving her and us?"

"If we are spies who have come to assassinate your Grand Master, she would have been dead the moment the four of us stepped inside her office alone. Don't you think it would be a great opportunity for us three to kill here at that time?" Kwang Soo says while giving the man a disappointed look. "Honestly, I expected a lot from you given that you have a high position in the rankings at such an age."

"Woah, chill. I was just toying with you two. I know you two are not enemies since the Grand Master let you inside her office without second thoughts." The blue haired man says while raising his hands in the air. "Anyway, I would like to give you guys a tour inside our headquarters."

"Headquarters?" Mi Young asks in a whisper.

"Uhn. This abandoned house you are in is the official headquarters of the high officials of this city." The Vice Captain says with a wink.

"You mean this abandoned house which can be easily sneaked into is the official headquarters? You must be joking, right?" The black haired girl says while trying not to laugh. However, when she sees the serious expression coming from the Vice Captain, she stops smiling. "You're serious?"

"Uhn. Actually, we saw you guys right before you entered the vicinity. That loud 'bang' you heard earlier was our interns who were training just right around the block." The Vice Captain explains. "The soldiers were about to imprison you guys when you showed up in our spycams but then the Captain said that you are friends of our Grand Master so they let you in, even though it was obvious that you two were trying to sneak inside without even knowing what is inside."

Both the students notice how the Vice Captain emphasized the last sentence he just uttered. With this, Mi Young crosses her arms at the man once again before rolling her eyes. "And I assumed when we entered this door right here, it was then that you decided to show up to give us a tour?"

"Maybe. Maybe not. Who knows, right?" The blue haired man shrugs his shoulders.

The black haired girl scoffs again before saying, "Now that we know what's inside, I think it's best if me and Kwang Soo will go. Thanks for the ted talk. See you!"

"Hey, where are you two going? We haven't even started with our tour!" The Vice Captain shouts while walking after them.

Mi Young waves a dismissive hand in the air, "It's boring."
